TED Talks Daily. Media matters. The climate that created the Trayvon Martin situation and so many before and after is due in part to media programming.

Jerry Kang warned in "Trojan Horses of Race" that television news perpetuates and creates racism. While we're looking at broadcasting, check your local newspapers.

Unless the person was hired recently, the San Francisco Chronicle does not have one Black reporter. I believe Shelah Moody was the last fired. So let's not give a pass to newspapers and the Internet that can have similar results as Dr. Kang describes in his work:. In particular, they reveal that most of us have implicit biases in the form of negative beliefs stereotypes and attitudes prejudice against racial minorities.

This is notwithstanding sincere self-reports to the contrary. These implicit biases have been demonstrated to have real-world consequence - in how we interpret actions, perform on exams, interact with others, and even shoot a gun Troubling is what's on the local news. Sensationalistic crime stories are disproportionately shown: If it bleeds, it leads.

Racial minorities are repeatedly featured as violent criminals. Consumption of these images, the social cognition research suggests, exacerbates our implicit biases against racial minorities. Steve Harvey, We Love You, but can you come when the people invite you instead of this forced arrangement. Here are some related links to the Bay Area's response:. There's a call to write federal legislators, but the most effective campaign will be the one that impacts the bottom line.

Folks write the advertisers and just turn that dial to make your point to media. It's time to take back the microphone, the camera, the column inches and keep the Net free. If you are "Linked In" or Have fun-loving "Facebook Friends," take advantage of your social media and generate funds for you company or favorite nonprofit. See what you can raise. See more details -Click Here. Not if Entercom has its way. I'm just sayin'! Stay Tuned! What more can they take from our community?

I will no longer be tuning in to this station!!!! Kevin Brown was one of the main reasons I tuned in daily. Any concerts sponsored by this station I will no longer attend. We know what we like both when we see it and hear it! Brown has supported community agencies and their events for more than a decade, putting a familiar voice and face to causes that needed help.

With the firing of Brown, we all lose. Steve Harvey is ok, but we are more interested in what is going on in the Bay Area in the mornings. Kevin, Niki and Joe are a great team. I know change is hard, but this was not broken, so why did you need to fix it? Kevin Brown is radio in the mornings. You can put Steve on in the afternoon for the drive home. I agree completely with this article. In most African American families in our area, everyone loves our cousin Kevin Brown.

I recall having some pretty dark days when I was laid off from work in and I would listen to Kevin on my way to my destination and he would make me laugh even when I was sad. I will surely miss his humor, warmth and most of all my cousin! Thank you for this informative article. I tuned in today and was dismayed to hear the change. He will be greatly missed by his loyal fans. If this is true I will no longer listen to KBLX, we need to make our dissatisfaction anger known to the new owners.

Why mess with success. I love Steve Harvey, but not for my local morning drive!! Deregulation of radio means minorities lose! Deregulation means no diversity and the same old folks with power will continue with the power. It is so unfortunate that after over 20 years, my husband and I, as well as other KBLX listeners within the Bay Area, will now have to find another morning drive station evening as well.

Why try to fix something that is not broken??? The ride in this morning was extremely dull and boring. Is this what we have to look forward to? We are fans of Steve Harvey, but not at all impressed with his radio program. We need current and relevant information pertaining to our Bay Area. Who is going to provide us with information pertaining to the upcoming concerts, shows and events in the entertainment world and current events that affect our surrounding communities?
